Program

The Mount Salkantay (6,372m) has been considered a holy mountain since the Incas era, and the surrounding mountain paths form the part of a large network of Inca routes, which counts about 40,000 km across the South America where it once extended the Inca Empire.

This trek is dedicated to the nature diversity that we will be able to admire. From the giants of the Andean Mountains and the colder climate, to the higher jungle with tropical temperatures and bathing in the thermal springs. The trek will end at Machu Picchu.

DAY 1: CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA

We will pick you up at 5:00 in the morning and will take off for a 4-hour trip to the picturesque town of Mollepata in the valley of the Apurimac River. This is the place where our trek begins. We head towards the Rio Blanco (White River) valley, which is fed by two glaciers, one of Salkantay Mountain and the other one of Humantay Mountain. We arrive at the camp in Soraypampa (3900 m). After a while we will be able to visit the Lake Humantay (4200 m). After visiting the lake, we will return to the camp and spend the night here.

Duration: 5 hours

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA - CHAULLAY

After the breakfast, we head up to Salkantay Pass (4600 m). This part of the trek will take about 3 hours. From the highest point of our trek we will see the snowcapped peaks of Humantay and Salkantay. After a few stops and lunch we arrive at Chaullay, a local community and there we will have the dinner and we overnight in the camp.

Duration: 9 hours

DAY 3: CHAULLAY - SANTA TERESA

This part of the trek is led in a higher jungle, roughly from 2000 masl to 1500 masl. The climate is subtropical, warm. We recommend a repellent, because the mosquitoes can be found at these altitudes. Later we will reach the small town of Santa Teresa. This place is known for being destroyed by landslide in 1998. It was subsequently restored and today leads a prosperous life. Oranges, bananas and other tropical fruits are grown here. After arriving at the camp, we will visit the local thermal springs in Cocalmayo.

Duration: 6 hours

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA - AGUAS CALIENTES

This part of the trek will lead through the valley of the Vilcanota River (Holy River) to the Santa Teresa Hydroelectric Power Plant. From the power plant, we will continue along the railway track to Aguas Calientes (there is a possibility to continue to Aguas Calientes by train). At Aguas Calientes we will stay at a 2* hotel, and after the dinner we will have the opportunity to visit the thermal springs.

Duration: 6h

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

Early in the morning we take the bus to the Machu Picchu Citadel. We take part in the two-hour guided tour. In the afternoon we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes. After the lunch, we will board the train to Ollantaytambo, where we take the bus and return to the city of Cusco and your hotel.
